As you enter your mid to late thirties, your eyes may start to exhibit signs of aging. The skin around your upper eyelids can loosen or become lax, resulting in drooping that may even impair your vision. The area beneath your eyes may appear puffy or tired, even with the use of high-end eye creams.
If these signs of aging are troubling you, consider consulting with Board Certified cosmetic surgeon, Dr. DeLozier, for an eyelid lift. Blepharoplasty involves the tightening of the muscles around your lower eyelids and the removal of excess fat tissue and skin. The procedure will give your eyes a more open and youthful appearance, making you look alert, refreshed and rejuvenated.
To ensure your safety and comfort, your eyelid lift procedure will be performed under general anesthesia. At the DeLozier Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. DeLozier typically completes both upper and lower eyelid lift surgery within one hour. Incisions for the upper eyelids are typically hidden within the natural fold of the eyelid. Dr. DeLozier will remove any excess skin and fatty tissue during this process.
For the lower eyelid, an incision will be concealed beneath the lower lash line. Dr. DeLozier will tighten the surrounding muscles and remove any excess skin through this incision. In some cases, excess fat will be removed or redistributed to eliminate puffiness or bulging beneath the eye. As part of the lower eyelid surgery, a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel will be performed to further tighten the skin and remove dark circles. You will prepare for the chemical peel by using a complimentary Retin-A product for two weeks prior to your surgery.
Your goals for your eyelid lift will be discussed realistically with Dr. DeLozier. Blepharoplasty is often performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries. You may opt to improve both your upper and lower eyelid regions, or simply desire to address one area. Together you will decide which procedures he will perform in order to achieve your desired results.
Your stitches will be removed between five and seven days after your blepharoplasty procedure. Immediately following surgery, you will be expected to apply ointment, eye drops, and ice to your eye area. To reduce swelling, you must keep your head elevated for several days. Although patients feel very well after just a few days, it may take up to a week or two to feel comfortable appearing in public. There is little pain associated with this procedure, but patients should expect to be bruised around their eyes for at least the first week.
Crows feet, wrinkles or sagging skin around your eyes will no longer give your age away. After your eyes have been rejuvenated, you can feel and look youthful again. You won’t have to worry about trying to conceal wrinkles or other such imperfections with heavy, harsh make-up and facial products. You won’t have to worry about drooping skin impairing your vision or feeling tired and aged. Over time, the results of your eyelid lift will keep you looking younger than if you’d never undergone the surgery.
