Inherited traits often prevent you from achieving your desired body shape. Even years of exercise may not give you the results you crave. For you and many others, the answer is liposuction, the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure. Liposuction removes fat from various areas of your body. If there’s an area of your body that you just can’t get in shape, think of liposuction as your spot reducer. Following your liposuction procedure with board certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. DeLozier, you can expect a slimmer, more defined figure.
Your Individual Goals
Your liposuction procedure goals will be discussed realistically with Nashville plastic surgeon Dr. DeLozier. Together you will decide which procedures he will perform to achieve your desired results.
About Liposuction Cosmetic Surgery
For your safety and comfort, you will be asleep under general anesthesia during your liposuction procedure. Liposuction is used to remove fat from the arms, legs, torso and face. Dr. DeLozier begins by inserting a cannula (a slim, hollow tube) into small incisions near the area(s) to be recontoured. The cannula is moved through the layers of tissue to remove excess fat. If necessary, once the fat and tissue have been removed, Dr. DeLozier stitches the incision and removes the excess skin.
There are several liposuction techniques for you to choose from:
- Standard Tumescent Technique injects fluid into your body, roughly the same amount as the fat to be removed.
- Body Jet Liposuction gently washes away the fat without traumatizing other structures such as blood vessels and nerves.
- Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) uses a specially designed cannula to liquefy the fat and suction it away.
- Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is a new technology in which the tip of the suction cannula vibrates at a high frequency. The vibration helps loosen the fat cells so they can be suctioned away more easily.
Dr. DeLozier uses Smart Lipo, the first and only laser lipolysis system to offer a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure for the removal of fat. Using a high-powered laser, Smart Lipo is a new laser body sculpting procedure with a shorter recovery time and fewer side effects than traditional liposuction.
Dr. DeLozier inserts a very small cannula (tube) approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber into the skin. He moves the cannula back and forth delivering the laser’s energy directly to your fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage and skin tightening. Due to the cannula’s small size, Smart Lipo is a less invasive procedure. The laser causes your small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising, as well as a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction.
Recovery From Liposuction
Dr. DeLozier will want you to move around as soon as possible to increase circulation after your liposuction procedure. After about 1-2 weeks your stitches will be removed. Most of the swelling should subside after three weeks. It is possible, though unlikely, that some swelling may last up to six months. You may resume normal exercise and activities after one month. At DeLozier Cosmetic Surgery Center, we will carefully track your recovery through follow-up visits.
You will have a more contoured silhouette as a result of liposuction surgery. Whether you seek a dramatic area reduction or just want to trim your physique, you’ll need new clothing to fit your new shape. Or you may finally enjoy the way clothes fit you. Our patients enjoy making the most of their new-found toned body. We expect that you will, too.
