Blepharoplasty in Nashville

An eyelid lift is a procedure that requires masterful skill in plastic surgery, as the skin around the eyes is some of the most thin and sensitive of the entire body.

The board-certified physicians at DeLozier Plastic Surgery have extensive experience in performing blepharoplasties, producing beautiful results that complement each individual’s unique features.

To ensure a smooth process, we will book you for a pre-op appointment between 1 month and 2 weeks before. This check-in allows us to review your goals in detail once more, review all post-op instructions, provide tips on how to prepare, and answer any remaining questions you have to feel comfortable and confident going into the day of your surgery.

On the day of your blepharoplasty in Nashville, we will escort you to a discreet, quiet room where we will mark the area for treatment. Afterward, we will move to our on-site operating suite—a AAAA, State-accredited facility—where we will place you under anesthesia.

Your surgeon will prep and disinfect the area before carefully making the incisions. For the upper eyelids, we hide these incisions within the natural fold of the eyelid; for the lower eyelid, we conceal it beneath the lower lash line. He or she will also remove any excess skin and fatty tissue during this process.

Your physician will tighten the surrounding muscles and remove any excess skin through this incision. In some cases, we can either remove excess fat or redistribute it to eliminate puffiness or bulging beneath the eye.

If previously discussed in your consultation or pre-op appointment, we will also perform a TCA chemical peel to further tighten the skin and remove dark circles. (You will prepare for the chemical peel by using a complimentary Retin-A product for two weeks prior to your surgery.)

The entire procedure typically takes about one hour when we are completing both upper and lower eyelid lifts. During this time, you will be under the watchful eye of our experienced and attentive anesthesia team, whose primary purpose in the operating room is to ensure your physical safety from start to finish.

Eyelid lifts require some physical, emotional, and logistical preparation in advance. We will guide you through this process from start to finish during your pre-operative appointment, but a few key things to keep in mind for immediately after your procedure include:

• Keeping your head elevated for several days (e.g., 3 pillows if in bed)
• Ice the eyes as much as possible for 2 days
• Moisten eyes with saline eye drops every 4 hours while awake
• Keep incisions coated with a layer of Bacitracin to prevent scabbing
• Walking and deep breathing every two hours except during bedtime sleeping hours
• Resume eating food as soon as you are ready, but avoid spicy and greasy foods for 24 hours

The night of your blepharoplasty, your physician will call you to ensure you are settled comfortably back home and get the chance to ask any other questions you might have.

Although patients feel very well after just a few days, it may take up to a week or two to feel comfortable appearing in public. There is little pain associated with this procedure, but patients should expect to be bruised around their eyes for at least the first week.

Do not drive until you have discontinued all pain medication and your visual abilities have returned to normal with the reduction of swelling. At no point while taking pain medication can you drive a car, go to work, make important decisions, or consume alcohol.

Please call the office if you develop a fever, nausea & vomiting, diarrhea, or excessive swelling, bruising, or bleeding.

We will invite you back to our office for a follow-up appointment (to remove your sutures) between five and seven days after your blepharoplasty in Nashville.
